Breast cancer and dairy?????????

"MILK"Just the word itself sounds comforting! "How about a nice cup of hot milk?" The last time you heard that question it was from someone who cared for you–and you appreciated their effort.

The entire matter of food and especially that of milk is surrounded with emotional and cultural importance. Milk was our very first food. If we were fortunate it was our mother’s milk. A loving link, given and taken. It was the only path to survival. If not mother’s milk it was cow’s milk or soy milk "formula"–rarely it was goat, camel or water buffalo milk.

Now, we are a nation of milk drinkers. Nearly all of us. Infants, the young, adolescents, adults and even the aged. We drink dozens or even several hundred gallons a year and add to that many pounds of "dairy products" such as cheese, butter, and yogurt.

Can there be anything wrong with this? We see reassuring images of healthy, beautiful people on our television screens and hear messages that assure us that, "Milk is good for your body." Our dieticians insist that: "You’ve got to have milk, or where will you get your calcium?" School lunches always include milk and nearly every hospital meal will have milk added. And if that isn’t enough, our nutritionists told us for years that dairy products make up an "essential food group." Industry spokesmen made sure that colourful charts proclaiming the necessity of milk and other essential nutrients were made available at no cost for schools. Cow’s milk became "normal."

You may be surprised to learn that most of the human beings that live on planet Earth today do not drink or use cow’s milk. Further, most of them can’t drink milk because it makes them ill.

There are students of human nutrition who are not supportive of milk use for adults. Here is a quotation from the March/April 1991 Utne Reader:

If you really want to play it safe, you may decide to join the growing number of Americans who are eliminating dairy products from their diets altogether. Although this sounds radical to those of us weaned on milk and the five basic food groups, it is eminently viable. Indeed, of all the mammals, only humans–and then only a minority, principally Caucasians–continue to drink milk beyond babyhood. "Indeed, of all the mammals, only humans–and then only a minority, principally Caucasians–continue to drink milk beyond babyhood.

Who is right? Why the confusion? Where best to get our answers? Can we trust milk industry spokesmen? Can you trust any industry spokesmen? Are nutritionists up to date or are they simply repeating what their professors learned years ago? What about the new voices urging caution?

I believe that there are three reliable sources of information. The first, and probably the best, is a study of nature. The second is to study the history of our own species. Finally we need to look at the world’s scientific literature on the subject of milk.

Let’s look at the scientific literature first. From 1988 to 1993 there were over 2,700 articles dealing with milk recorded in the "Medicine" archives. Fifteen hundred of theses had milk as the main focus of the article. There is no lack of scientific information on this subject. I reviewed over 500 of the 1,500 articles, discarding articles that dealt exclusively with animals, esoteric research and inconclusive studies.

How would I summarize the articles? They were only slightly less than horrifying. First of all, none of the authors spoke of cow’s milk as an excellent food, free of side effects and the "perfect food" as we have been led to believe by the industry. The main focus of the published reports seems to be on intestinal colic, intestinal irritation, intestinal bleeding, anemia, allergic reactions in infants and children as well as infections such as salmonella. More ominous is the fear of viral infection with bovine leukemia virus or an AIDS-like virus as well as concern for childhood diabetes. Contamination of milk by blood and white (pus) cells as well as a variety of chemicals and insecticides was also discussed. Among children the problems were allergy, ear and tonsillar infections, bedwetting, asthma, intestinal bleeding, colic and childhood diabetes. In adults the problems seemed centered more around heart disease and arthritis, allergy, sinusitis, and the more serious questions of leukemia, lymphoma and cancer.

I think that an answer can also be found in a consideration of what occurs in nature – what happens with free living mammals and what happens with human groups living in close to a natural state as "hunter-gatherers".

Our paleolithic ancestors are another crucial and interesting group to study. Here we are limited to speculation and indirect evidences, but the bony remains available for our study are remarkable. There is no doubt whatever that these skeletal remains reflect great strength, muscularity (the size of the muscular insertions show this), and total absence of advanced osteoporosis. And if you feel that these people are not important for us to study, consider that today our genes are programming our bodies in almost exactly the same way as our ancestors of 50,000 to 100,000 years ago.

WHAT IS MILK?

Milk is a maternal lactating secretion, a short term nutrient for new-borns. Nothing more, nothing less. Invariably, the mother of any mammal will provide her milk for a short period of time immediately after birth. When the time comes for "weaning", the young offspring is introduced to the proper food for that species of mammal.

A familiar example is that of a puppy. The mother nurses the pup for just a few weeks and then rejects the young animal and teaches it to eat solid food. Nursing is provided by nature only for the very youngest of mammals. Of course, it is not possible for animals living in a natural state to continue with the drinking of milk after weaning.

IS ALL MILK THE SAME?

Then there is the matter of where we get our milk. We have settled on the cow because of its docile nature, its size, and its abundant milk supply. Somehow this choice seems "normal" and blessed by nature, our culture, and our customs. But is it natural? Is it wise to drink the milk of another species of mammal?

Consider for a moment, if it was possible, to drink the milk of a mammal other than a cow, let’s say a rat. Or perhaps the milk of a dog would be more to your liking. Possibly some horse milk or cat milk. Do you get the idea? Well, I’m not serious about this, except to suggest that human milk is for human infants, dogs’ milk is for pups, cows’ milk is for calves, cats’ milk is for kittens, and so forth. Clearly, this is the way nature intends it. Just use your own good judgement on this one.

Milk is not just milk. The milk of every species of mammal is unique and specifically tailored to the requirements of that animal. For example, cows’ milk is very much richer in protein than human milk. Three to four times as much. It has five to seven times the mineral content. However, it is markedly deficient in essential fatty acids when compared to human mothers’ milk. Mothers’ milk has six to ten times as much of the essential fatty acids, especially linoleic acid. (Incidentally, skimmed cow’s milk has no linoleic acid). It simply is not designed for humans.

Food is not just food, and milk is not just milk. It is not only the proper amount of food but the proper qualitative composition that is critical for the very best in health and growth. Biochemists and physiologists - and rarely medical doctors - are gradually learning that foods contain the crucial elements that allow a particular species to develop its unique specializations.

Clearly, our specialization is for advanced neurological development and delicate neuromuscular control. We do not have much need of massive skeletal growth or huge muscle groups as does a calf. Think of the difference between the demands make on the human hand and the demands on a cow’s hoof. Human new-borns specifically need critical material for their brains, spinal cord and nerves.

Can mother’s milk increase intelligence? It seems that it can. In a remarkable study published in Lancet during 1992 (Vol. 339, p. 261-4), a group of British workers randomly placed premature infants into two groups. One group received a proper formula, the other group received human breast milk. Both fluids were given by stomach tube. These children were followed up for over 10 years. In intelligence testing, the human milk children averaged 10 IQ points higher! Well, why not? Why wouldn’t the correct building blocks for the rapidly maturing and growing brain have a positive effect?

In the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (1982) Ralph Holman described an infant who developed profound neurological disease while being nourished by intravenous fluids only. The fluids used contained only linoleic acid - just one of the essential fatty acids. When the other, alpha linoleic acid, was added to the intravenous fluids the neurological disorders cleared.

In the same journal five years later Bjerve, Mostad and Thoresen, working in Norway found exactly the same problem in adult patients on long term gastric tube feeding.

In 1930 Dr. G.O. Burr in Minnesota working with rats found that linoleic acid deficiencies created a deficiency syndrome. Why is this mentioned? In the early 1960s pediatricians found skin lesions in children fed formulas without the same linoleic acid. Remembering the research, the addition of the acid to the formula cured the problem. Essential fatty acids are just that and cows’ milk is markedly deficient in these when compared to human milk.
Snuff smoking is bad, but some comes lung cancer and others do not want to say that smoking is okay?

This isn’t a question it’s a rant. From its title, it’s clearly a rant from someone lucky enough not to have had breast cancer, since it’s always those who haven’t had cancer (and lately usually teenagers for some reason) who come on here preaching to the rest of us about how we got it.

When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I had been vegan (ie no dairy, so no milk at all) for 8 years.Avoiding dairy didn’t stop me getting breast cancer, it didn’t cure me and I’m sure as hell not relying on it to stop recurrences or metastases.

Learn some facts about cancer before you come on the cancer forum shouting to people who have had cancer about how they got it.

If dairy was the cause of breast cancer I’d still have two breasts.

Would this be a good straightener for a guy?

And I got "Tresemme Protect Heat Defence smooth" 60 ml today. Im getting a straightener tomorrow and the salon recommended a skinny one since my hair isnt extremely long. Anywho, she reccomended me a GHD for 99 euro and i couldnt afford that. So, this? Would it be any good?
Thank you Lucie.
Your the only open minded person here.
All my friends straighten their hair lol so I don’t know what all of you are talking about. Lucie’s answer is exactly what I was looking for. 10 Points for her.

The rest of you, well done you got your 2 points? Could have multiplied that by 5 if you gave a decent answer.

Ignore all the people saying "straighteners are for woman, blabla". Do they have a big label on saying "NOT FOR MEN"? Do Remington, GHD, Toni&Guy or whatever say "You can’t use straighteners if you’re a man"? No, I didn’t think so.

ANYWAY: they look fine - thin straighteners are good for short hair and males. Go out and buy them :)

Oh, and, to the people saying straighteners are for woman - how come there are straighteners made especially for males, then?

Hillary will not quit until the nominee is picked in Denver.Even if she loses she still will not quit. Her obsession to be President will outlive this election should Obama win the nomination. If he does win, he can expect not only zero support from the Clinton machine but probably active opposition. Hillary will begin her campaign to be the nominee in four years on day one after the convention. Her desire to see Obama fail will remind us all of the old saying ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’.

Oblivion Elder Scrolls: Smart Mod Users?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: care cat health product

Can somebody help me figure out the mods? There are thousands of mods and I’m getting very confused about which ones to use. I included the list of mods I have but if you can add/remove any that would help.

-I don’t want to cheat or make things too easy.
-And I don’t want to make things too difficult either because that happened last time and I stopped playing.
-And I do like new quests and stuff.
-But I don’t really care about new weapons, clothes, houses, manquins, etc unless theyre unbelivably cool and don’t feel like cheating.
-And I don’t want to paralyze my computer; I’m already running on minimum requirements for FPS.

These are my PC stats; even though I meet the requirements sometimes this game just slows right tf down. I can’t afford to upgrade.

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (Build Service Pack 22600)
CPU: 2 processors running - Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2500 @ 2.00GHz
CPU Speed: 1.99 GHz Performance Rated at 3.74 GHz
System RAM: 1022 MB
Vidoe Card: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (0×7145))
Video RAM: 512 MB
Video Card 3D Acceleration: Yes
Video HW Transform & Lighting: Yes
Vertex Shader Ver.: 3.0
Pixel Shader Ver.: 3.0
Video Card Driver Version (DirectX): 6.14.10.6601
DirectX Version: 9.0c
Sound Card: SoundMAX HD Audio
Sound Card Driver Version: 1.0
Free Disk Space: 10.2 GB
DVD: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4082N

*ATI does not support my ATI video card and I can’t update the drivers. I go to the ATI website and download the right program and it gives me a message saying they don’t support the product.

So far these are the mods I have. The ones marked with * are ones I’m not sure if I like/ don’t seem to make much effect.

-Keychain
-OBSE
-Unoficial patch
-Colored Enemy Health
-Colored world map
-No persistant enchantments
-Better grass texture *
-No Intro
-Chameleon no refraction
-Cats *
-OBMM
-Operation Optimization
-Low poly grass
-Streamline
-Spell Delete

Also are any of the official addons, expansion any good? I’ve heard nice things about SI.

Your best move is to play Oblivion for a while, then sit down and write a detailed review of the game, as if you were writing it for a gaming magazine and getting paid for it. Write down the good and bad points about the game, what you wish the game programmers would have done differently, etc. When you’re done with that, go through your list of changes you would make and choose those mods that would effect those changes. I don’t play with mods myself, but I have a friend who does, and this is what he did. He seems to enjoy the results. - LJS

Seeking Vet Advice for Ferret in Terrible Conditions?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: care cat health product

Two friends and myself rescued a hamster and a ferret from a filthy trailer yesterday (April 18, 2009). The previous owners had not fed or cared for the animals in quite awhile, as they can hardly even take care of themselves. They were glad to have the small animals taken off their hands, but now they are our responsibility and we are seeking professional advice. The hamster seems to be in good condition, but the ferret is what worries me. He is very thin and infested with fleas. We gave him a bath using ferret shampoo, and later went out to find flea/tick products for ferrets. Since ferrets are considered exotic animals, it was impossible for us to find flea/tick products for ferrets at the nearest pet stores so an employee at Petsmart recommended that we try using the flea/tick spray for small rodents. So later we sprayed his body down in the small rodent flea/tick spray and moments later, fleas began to fall off of his body. He still has several on his body, however, so we will continue to spray him as necessary throughout the week.

Yesterday, before we went home to bathe the animal, we went to 6 different vet hospitals to seek any possible advice on what to do with the ferret. The vets were either closed, or cost too much to have the animal looked at. We told them that we had just rescued him and did not want to pay vet charges on an animal that may possibly die (and vet charges are expensive, as I have a cat, dog, and mongolian gerbil that I take care of).

Anyway the vets suggested going to the SPCA, which was the first place we turned to. I figured since the SPCA is full of volunteers working to help animals, that there would be at least one person willing to give us advice. Unfortunately, no one would assist us and instead, directed us to the animal hospitals that would not give us advice either.

This is very nerve racking. I am nineteen years old, saving to go to college in the fall. I can’t afford to pay for a vet to examine this ferret if he is just going to die. (There was a previous incident a couple of years ago when I had bought a 1-2 year old cat from the SPCA, and paid a lot of vet charges to make sure she was healthy and up to date on everything, and then a week later we had to put her asleep because the vet told us that she had an ingrown, or over-sized heart? He said she would live for about 6 months but it would make breathing hard for her, so he recommended putting her down. I still think from this day that maybe he had false judgement and if we had tried a little more, that she could have been fixed.) So as you can see, I do not want to go pay hundreds of dollars to have this ferret looked at. I simply cant afford to lose money if the efforts are just going to be for nothing.

Please if you have no experience with a ferret, do not respond to this question. I do not want to hear comments like "aww that’s terrible" or "go to a vet." I am expecting comments from people who have perhaps worked with ferrets, know anything about them, or have ever nursed an animal back to health from prior neglect. This is very serious, and we really need good advice on what to do.

Once we figure out what to do to help him in the meantime, I am going to see about getting with my pets’ vet and asking him for his advice. Possibly on monday, as they are not open today. I understand that whoever reads this may think that we shouldn’t be rescuing an animal if we can’t afford vet charges, but you have to understand that we are just a couple of teenagers trying to help a neglected animal. There is only so much we can do.

These animals are so happy that we have rescued them. If you could just see them; their personalities are amazing. The little hamster is a hyper little guy, and very friendly. My friend and her boyfriend are in love with him, and the ferret (now that he’s had a bath, food, and a clean place to sleep) he is so happy and playful. These animals will make a great pet to someone very soon, hopefully.

Flea infestations are bad!!

The ferret can be anemic from the loss of blood, he could also have tapeworm (swallowing fleas = tapeworm).

They sell ferret specific flea and tick mousse and its works great.

If he is eating well on his own, you can add in chicken/turkey baby foods (you may have to convince him it tastes good, but puting some on your finger and wiping it on his tounge..a few times maybe more). He is probably dehydrated, you can mix pedialyte (baby section) or some gatorade into his water and baby food, they are both electrolytes and will rehydrate him. Make sure you frequently change his water when you mix it with the electrolytes so, it stays fresh.

You can buy ferretvite ot nutrical, its a high calorie supplement. But it is high in sugar.

I personally use prescription diet a/d (available at vets) and it can be easily mixed with pedialyte and my ferrets scarf it down. YUM!

If I were you, I would take him to the veterinarian.. Get some SubQ fluids in him, pick up some a/d and have an over all health check done on him. Also have a fecal test done to see if he has internal parasites. Since 3 of you rescued him, split the costs of the vet.

Just feed him lots, give him tons of attention and love.

G.L.

add.. most over the counter wormers don’t treat tapeworms, you will need a specific medication.

Thankyou for all the answers

Sorry! I’ve never heard of that brand before. More than likely no matter what flat iron you get you’re still gonna be able to achieve that look. Btw, since you’re looking for a new flat iron try looking at folica.com. They’ve got a big selection and really good prices. =)

Could I please have your opinion? My question didn’t post. =(

Am I in the right for wanting to leave him?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: care cat health product

I just don’t know what I should do.

It all started when I was 18 years old (I’m 22 now) I met this guy, I’ll call him Allen.. He was homeless and I was finishing up my High schooling and working part time. He was sweet and kind and very cute. I didn’t care that he was homeless (he was 27 at the time) He kept himself clean and decent. We started dating and he got a friend to let him move in. Months went by and he didn’t get a job. About 6 months into our realationship I told him, If you dont get a job i’m leaving.

His mother died to around this time. He alwasy threw it in my face saying "you threatend to leave me if i didn’t get working around the time my mother died…how dare you"

but i felt, if he didn’t get working soon, his depression would go deeper and he would never make anything of himself. He never held a job and he was almost 30. He also had just became clean on Crystal Meth. I myself never touched a drug other then alittle Pot back when i was younger (I do not smoke pot anymore or drink or do anything after i turned 20)

I at this time had quite my job to help him more and was just about to graduate Highschool. He did get a job. His friend and his friends Girlfriend were about to have a baby. We all got a 2 bedroom apartment. Things weren’t going to well with our roomates but between us it was. I had graduated and started working at a call center with Allen. but he started to get very controlling. He wouldn’t want me to hang out with my friends or see family. I then got pregnant. My roomates were alcholics as well as Allen, was always drunk and it was getting worse.

He was very verbally abusive (I was 19 by this point) My aunt had me move to New Jersey with her. That turned out to be a bad situation. Mainly because she and her husband were trying to get me to leave Allen, but I didn’t want to. I was being blind and stupid, but i felt so guitly. I was in love still and being so far away from him made me feel guilty and horrible that i left. Esp while pregnant.

On the 8th month of my pregnancy i moved back to him. We were still living in that hell hole with the room-mates. I had my baby and in about 2 months we got out own apartment. Things went well for a long while.

But there was still controlling issue’s. He to this day (it’s been almost 4 years we have been together) Calls me names that i dont want to repeat. Wont let me see my friends, He’s gone from this nice guy to this controlling emotionally abusive person. I think it’s because he went from having nothing, to being the "man" of the house and the only one paying for bills in such a short time. It’s a power trip for him and it’s gone to his head. He claims i use him for his money, wich is funny cuz when i met him…he had nothing….

HE’s even threatend to punch me in the face. (he’s never phsycially hit me yet…but i feel it will be soon cuz he is gradually threatening more with it)

He refuses to help me with the baby. He works and I stay home. Yes, i dont do anything anymore around the house like I used to because i’m so depressed. He’s made me break off many friendships. I’m not perfect, by anymeans but i can’t talk to him. Everytime i try to say "lets talk about this…it’ s inportant" or "lets make a budget" or "im upset or bothered about this in my life, how about we talk about it"
he just rolls his eyes and wont listen. He always calls me a child and that i’m not very bright.

He treats my cats like crap to. Not caring how i love them as well.

He’s to spoiling to our son. There has been days that i didnt’ sleep. I know that this is normal for parents but when it goes on for 2 days straight i tell him, i cannot stay up anymore. I’ll pass out (our son has some bad sleeping problems and the doctor told me to just put him in his crib and let him cry it out so i can get some rest) Allen told me, if i dare fall asleep he will kick me and my cats out. but I cannot help it if i pass out right? but he says "oh well..deal? What do you do all day anyways? You just watch a kid? you cant be to tired from that?"

He has no concern for my health, or emotional well being.

He is allowed to go anywhere he wants, but if i dare go out or have friends over he gets so angry.

he also has this friend over who treats me really bad. But it does’t mattter…cuz it’s his friend…right?

A while back, he got a large inheritance from his step father that passed away,

It all got spent. It was about 20 Thousand dollars, we now have about 5 thousand. I had spent about a good 3 grand of that on food for the house, house held products and things we need over 2 years span. He spend the other amount of Taxi’s and holiday shopping and things he wanted, but he still blames me for all of it being gone.

When I tell him i’m leaving he says "great you spent all my money and now your leaving?!!" He puts this guilt on me. I didnt’ spend all his money but he thinks i did. I a few times bought myself some thi

The alcoholism is a sign of low self esteem and so is the mental abuse.
You are not going to win, his controlling is going to escalate to violence one day.
You need to get away, back to New Jersey

i got this email from Iams bc i emailed them?

i emailed them bout how they treat animals lol and they email me bk with this Thank you for contacting us.

Unfortunately, there is highly inaccurate and misleading information circulating on the Internet regarding our feeding studies, and I’m glad you’ve given me the opportunity to provide you with the facts. We too are passionate about cats and dogs, with a deep commitment to their health and welfare.

We are accountable for making sure that our products are wholesome, and that consumers can feed them with confidence. Instead of contracting other companies to conduct our feeding studies, we choose to conduct such studies in the homes of our employee families. Today, over 600 employee families participate in our in-home testing program.

Even though the vast majority of our studies are conducted in an in-home setting, there are some studies that require in-depth data gathering in a more controlled environment. We do this type of feeding study in our company-owned Pet Health and Nutrition Center . These studies follow our industry leading research protocol and are the veterinary equivalent of nutritional or medical studies acceptable on people. The studies are monitored by our own staff of veterinarians, behaviorists and independent experts.

Our Pet Health and Nutrition Center is a state-of-the-art facility. Our dogs and cats live in a cageless environment, receiving proper socialization in an enriched setting.

Because dogs are pack animals, our dogs are housed with a companion. Each kennel has a doggie-door that takes them to an outside run, giving them lots of room for running and playing. Each dog is provided with his or her own toys (rotated on a regular basis) and their very own comfortable bed to sleep on. There is also a dog park adjacent to the kennels where the dogs play and interact each day in play groups.

Our cats are housed in compatible social groups. Each room is furnished with beds, toys (to stimulate play) and several perches, which allow our cats to observe things from a higher viewpoint. Each cat room also has a very large window with a platform where our cats can lay in the sun or watch the birds feeding at the outside bird feeders.

All of our dogs and cats reach a point in their life when it’s time to leave the Pet Health and Nutrition Center . That is when they are either adopted into a home or placed into our retirement facility. Either way, they will live out their lives in comfort with good food, good companionship, and good veterinary care.

In 2007 we had several members of the news media tour our facility. Their reports are available at:

what yal think bout it =O

I’d side with Iam’s over PETA any day. I don’t think their food is that high quality and don’t feed my pets Iams for that reason, but I wouldn’t have a problem with buying Iams because of what PETA put out. PETA just blackmails companies for money. Research KFC for a good example of that. They buy from the same chicken supplier as Mcdonalds and Wendy’s. Notice Mcdonalds and Wendy’s don’t have PETA people in chicken suits marching in front of them? They all buy from the same chicken supplier, the only difference is that KFC refused to be blackmailed by PETA and didn’t sign their pledge and give them a donation.
The whole abuse thing was about a one time incident at a Pilgrim’s Pride chicken plant where all employees involved were fired. The same plant that Mcdonalds and Wendy’s STILL buy from.
Why is only KFC still bashed by PETA? I’m sure you can figure out that it’s all about money.
That’s the same thing PETA is doing with Petsmart, Iams, and now various candy companies. First they send a letter with their ‘demands’ and when the demands aren’t met they start the bashing. With Petsmart, they wanted them to quit selling any pets because PETA wants pet ownership banned. They also wanted a donation. When PetSmart didn’t pay up, they started searching for a way to bash them in the media.
PETA= Criminal blackmailing organization
They blackmail for money, when they don’t get it they set up elaborate websites to ruin the business of whoever didn’t pay up the blackmail..
