What health risks might a healthy cat pose to a healthy person?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat health

Of course, we all try to practice good hygiene, but there are always times when my cat reaches out and licks my lips unexpectedly just after he’s been licking his butt, or when I’m not sure if he’s eaten something off my dinner plate when I had my back turned.
How worried and how careful should we be?
Oh I’m not phobic, just wondering.

I’ve never heard of anyone getting sick from a healthy cat to be honest! Only thing I would say is that if there’s a pregnant person in the household they should avoid the cat litter.

Health hazards of not getting my cat either spayed or layed?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat health

I heard somewhere that there were serious health hazards if i dont either get my cat spayed or let her mate…???? i guess i just need to know if thats true..

An entire (non-desexed) female cat is at risk of pyometra, cancers of the female reproductive tract, cancers of the mammary gland, mammary gland hyperplasia (they get huge and hideous), abuse from people who are angry at the constant yowls of a female cat in heat.

Allowing a cat to mate doesn’t remove any of these risks, except that she will come off heat if she is pregnant. But they you have all the risks associated with pregnancy to deal with.

Not to mention if you keep a cat entire, you will have all the local tom cats come to pay a visit, and even if they can’t get to her you will be listening to cat fights and calls all night, and wake up to hte distictive smell of male cat urine on your doors and windows in the morning.

What are the health risks from a person living in a home filled of cat/dog urine & feces?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat health

If someone lived in a house that the floors, carpet etc was covered in dog & cat pee and feces… all over the house… & breathing it in for years… what are the health problems-hazards that would arise from that???

OMG.. ALOT..

one.. you can get toxoplasmosis.. that’s from the cat poo..

two..all that feces and urine contains parasites, bacteria, viruses and fungus.. and it can cause respiratory problems, kidney disease, liver disease and diarrhea.

three- if you have children.. it’s even more hazardous..

you could try having a separate place for the dog and cat..

please be clean!!

How the CAT scan during pregnancy affects the child’s health in the future?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat health

I was 6.5 mo. pregnant when doctors scheduled a CAT scan on my lungs. At that time I had no clue about possible danger for my child. However now, after reading all these articles on the Web, my life could be described by one single word "FEAR". I’m afraid for my daughter now and most importatly for her future. People with similar experiences please be so kind and share with me how is your kids’ health? I thank you in advance.

There are two things working in your favor here….you were past your first trimester (a fetus is more radiosensitive very early in a pregnancy) and the CT scan was of an area other than your pelvis. X-rays do not fly all willy nilly around a room. They are highly directed and concentrated beams of radiation, which expose only the area of interest…in your case, your lungs. Your baby probably got very little, if any radiation from this CT scan. I urge you to talk to your OB/GYN, as he/she can probably reassure you better than anyone on this forum.

The following is taken from a website which has questions answered by qualified medical personel who are experts in radiation and it’s effects. Here is what I found:

"There should be no effects from the chest x ray or the
chest CT scan. The risks to the baby are minimal, if any, when x rays are taken of areas other than the abdomen. This is because the x-ray beam is focused only on the area of interest in order to minimize doses to other areas of the body. When you receive a diagnostic x-ray study of your head, teeth, chest, arms, or legs at a qualified facility, the
exposure of the x rays is not to your baby. The "scatter" that might reach the baby would be extremely small and would not represent an increased risk for birth defects or miscarriage to your embryo."

"QUESTION: I just had a chest CT and am worried about the effect on my baby. I am 15 weeks pregnant (13 weeks fetal age) and they thought I might be having a clot in my lung, so they did the chest CT. Will this have any impact on my baby? They put two layers of lead shields on my pelvic region and said the x rays were only shot above that part anyway (my lungs). My concern is the iodine stuff they put in my veins. I didn’t realize that was radioactive. I drank tons of water today to try to flush it out of my system. Will that hurt the baby?

The "scatter" that might reach the baby would be extremely small and would not represent an increased risk for birth defects or miscarriage to your embryo. As for the iodine that was used, it is not radioactive. It is used as a contrast agent—meaning that the doctors were able to see some areas within the body better with this contrast agent in them.

How do you feel about feeding your cat garlic? Health benefits?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat health

I’ve heard it is good for them and kills worms.

It can’t kill worms. This is and old wives tale. Medical doctors would be prescribing as an inexpensive cure for people in third world countries with worms if this were the case. Your cat doesn’t need garlic, just a good canned cat food and fresh water daily.
