My dog eats cat food only. It will not touch dog food. Will this affect it’s health?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat health food

It is about 4 years old and was given to us about a month ago. I guess it’s used to table food so we’ve tried different brands of dog food. Well we have a cat and I always catch it eating cat food and it doesn’t touch the dog food. Any ideas or suggestions?

YOUR DOG CANNOT LIVE ON CAT FOOD!
Cat food does not have the nutrients that a dog needs to be healthy.

Start blending dog food in with the cat food. Continue to add more dog food and less cat food each time you feed. You have to be more stubborn then your dog. It will NOT starve itself. If it picks out the cat food only, do not refill the bowl until it has eaten every kibble.

Have you tried Wellness, Natural Balance, Canidae, Innova? Those are all ghigh quality foods that have the essential ingredients your dog needs. Remember that your dog is a carnivore and meat needs to be the first few ingredients (not corn as most dog foods have). No Dog Chow or Pedigree, no Kibbles-n-Bits, Beneful, Iams, or any other foods you can find on your local supermarket or Target/Wal-mart shelf. Stay away from foods that contain corn, wheat, soy (fillers) and by-products.

You won’t see the effects of a poor diet for years to come, but when your dog is a senior facing health issues that come with old age do you really want to compound that by adding kidney problems and everything else that can come from lack of essential nutrients it’s entire life?

Cat food Quandary - what do I feed all three cats? Two have special health issues.?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat health food

My kitten has the most sensitive stomach ever. I’ve tried Innova Evo, Wellness, and Royal Canin IVD dry foods. All give her diarrhea. She tried the Royal Canin Kitten food. It didn’t give her diarrhea but it gave her struvite crystals. I’ve also tried Science Diet c/d and none of my three cats will eat it, wet or dry. I feed Merrick wet food and they like it a lot. It doesn’t give my kitten diarrhea or make her vomit. Sometimes it makes her cough though.

I want to find a dry food they can all eat that will be easy on Tosca’s stomach, not cause crystals, and will be safe and healthy for the other two cats. Velvet has CRF and Marina is perfectly fine. I prefer very high quality foods like Innova but so far they don’t agree with Tosca’s tummy. Feeding all of them separately is not an all the time option. I want to find something dry they can all eat for those times when I go out of town or something comes up that keeps me from coming home early enough to feed them their evening meal.
The vet does think there is a food allergy but we aren’t sure what Tosca is allergic to. He wants her on Science Diet c/d for the urine crystals, but if she won’t eat it, what can I do? (That’s fine. I’m not a Science Diet fan).
The coughing is only with the Merrick wet, and usually with the turkey so another vet and I are thinking maybe a turkey sensitivity but that wouldn’t explain the problems with dry food. I’m wondering if it could be an allergy to a common binder in dry foods as opposed to a meat or carb source??? Just a thought off the top of my head.

Hi Angie

I think you know what I would say about feeding any dry foods so I won’t give you the same spiel I always give.
You know with the CRF you want to keep the phosperous low and many wellnes and merrick canned are fine for that.

I don’t belive there is such a thing as a dry food good for sensitive stomachs even counting that garbage prescription stuff. So merrick seems to agree with all except for the cough
Does it only happen with merrick? Has an inflamation of the airways been ruled out? No asthma right?
Could it be so simple that maybe your cat likes merrick so much that she eats too fast? You can break it down to small ortions if that’s the case. If some f the canned foods give diarreah, you can try adding some acidoupholous to the food.(available in healthstores or online)
Going away, not going to be home in time to feed the
bosses? Food timers! You can set them to open at certain ties, stay open for x amount of timne ect.
U giving fluids? Hope that is going well
Ken

See i love my cat so much i treat him like he’s my very own baby and i don’t get disgusted of him what so ever. Sometimes when i eat cornflakes he enjoys sipping the milk in the bowl so i don’t get bothered and let him do it since he won’t drink off his own and plus i enjoy the fact that he wants to eat from MY bowl and sometimes he sips the milk of my spoon but i was wondering would that harm me in any way??

Is it safe to feed my cat Fancy Feast wet cat food with wheat gluten?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat health food

Hi there! In advance, I greatly appreciate any help or feedback that members can offer with my question.

I feed my two cats the "regular" varieties of Fancy Feast wet cat food. In light of the contaminated wheat gluten scare, for the past five months or so, I have been feeding them Fancy Feast varieties that do not contain wheat gluten (for example, Gourmet Seafood Feast and Savory Salmon Feast).

Although my cats are in good health, lately, they seem to have lost their interest in the wet food varieties I’ve been feeding them. (I also feed them Fancy Feast dry kibbles.) When I open a new can, they simply go up to the food and take a few licks. I was wondering if it is safe to feed them Fancy Feast varieties that DO contain wheat gluten (e.g., Flaked Tuna Feast) as a way to recapture their interest in wet food. Is this safe? Has the contaminated wheat gluten scare been contained yet? Again, thanks in advance for your help and advice!

Fancy Feast is made by Purina. None of the Fancy Feast or Purina cat foods was ever affected by the wheat gluten contamination. Only one Purina product for dogs was affected and pulled off the shelves. My cats have been eating many of the Fancy Feast varieties for 5 months or more with no problems; wheat gluten ones as well.

But stay around these forums and you’ll learn that this is not the best canned food to feed them. Some of the Fancy Feast are OK, others not so good.

Most healthy cat food?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat health food

I know Science Diet is supposedly the best cat food health wise, but I really can’t afford it (it’s pretty expensive isn’t it? I just remember someone saying it was, but I haven’t actually checked) anyway… is there a cat food that can be purchased at Walmart or Target or something that is healthy, natural, but not too pricey? I know just the plain old Cat Chow and stuff like that is awful for your pets… what about like Iams though?

A healthy cat food contains no corn, no by-product, and no dyes or chemical preservatives. Nature created cats to eat meat, and they derive little to no nutrition from corn. By-products aren’t meat, they are all the ‘parts’ deemed unfit for human consumption (heads, feet, intestines, hides, spinal chords, spoiled meat, and so on). Go to the pet store and read the ingredients. You’ll be surprised. Price is not always a sign of quality - Science Diet is very expensive, and is full of cheap fillers like corn and by-products. The least costly healthy brand you are going to find is Petsmart’s Authority brand. A step up from there (and still less that Science Diet) would be Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover’s Soul. Buying a better quality food will save you money in the long run, as good nutrition now saves money on vet bills in the future.

What are the health benefits and risks of humans eating cat or dog food?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat health food

There are no benefits from it. The risks are simply that you could make yourself sick. Nothing too serious I am sure, but nonetheless, why do it when human food is available?

Do you feed your cat Chicken Soup cat food?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat health food

Im thinking about switching my cats from Purina Urinary Tract Health to Chicken Soup adult cat food because it’s so much healthier. Just wondering if anyone else feeds this and how your cat likes it. If you feed it now have they ever had a UTI? Im going to call my vet tomorrow and ask about it but its always nice to have extra input.

My cat loves it. SHe was on one of the prescription foods for urinary stones and since switching her to the Chicken Soup she has been fine. No UTI’s
She looks great her coat is shinny and very nice.
She loves the food and I have been using it for over two years now.
