How can I convince my parents to let me adopt a cat (not a kitten)?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat show supplies

I know this question has been answered already, but my parents are like brick walls.

I researched cat care, supplies, costs, etc. already and showed off my knowledge to my parents.

My dad believes that I won’t be able to take care of the cat properly. My mom thinks I’ll suffer heartbreak when it dies.

I am the sole caretaker of the goldfish in my house. I also do lots of housework, such as: vacuuming, making bed, folding laundry, setting up and cleaning dinner table, occasionally washing dishes, etc.

My parents don’t make deals. Any ideas?

get a pet rock and show them how well you take care of it then smash it with a hammer and show them how well you deal with its death!!

Issues with pregnancy in cats?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat show supplies

Hi, my cat is a young cat and she got pregnant. We decided against taking her to the vet unless she begins to show signs of discomfert as, other than the occasional mood swing and the new-found ability to eat the worlds supply of cat food, shes her normal self.

This morning though when she came for my wake up call, i noticed that the pregnancy seems to be a little further up in her rib cage than I would have considered normal, so much so that it has pushed atleast a third of her ribs out. My question is: Is this normal, or can it be harmful to her?

Again, I dont want to make unneccisary trips to the vet, she is insured but we do live quite far away and I dont drive so its likely to be more destressing to her than helpful so please dont answer with just ‘Take her the vet’ as this wont be helpful to me.
Thanks, She is approximatly 7-8 weeks so getting close now, and she is carrying 5 kittens.

Try calling the vet’s office and asking them. Usually, if you explain your situation, they will tell you whether or not a pet should be brought in. Or, try calling any 24 hour vet office and ask them.
Other than that, you didn’t mention how far along she was. Some cats, as they get further into their pregnancy show a lot more. Another factor to consider, have you had any sonograms done on her to check for how many kittens she’s carrying? If she is carrying anywhere over four, then most likely she would show more, and she would have a larger area where the kittens are spread out. If that makes any sense.
In any case, I would just stick with your plan of waiting until she is showing signs of discomfort before you take her in to the vet’s.

Is having a pet leech a bad idea?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat show supplies

Ok, we’re familiar with the pet dog or cat, but what about a leech? I have a Marine biologist teacher friend with whom I work that bought leeches to show his 9th graders. He didn’t hesitate to let the leech suck his blood. At the end of the day he had 5 bites on his arm.

So I started to think about what a unique pet that would make. According to my friend, a single large feeding will keep a leech happy through an entire season. What a low maintenance pet! Plus, you can actually buy them online from biological supply companies at a cost of 3 for $10.

My only concerns are that it would somehow contaminate my blood causing septicemia as a worst-case scenario, and it might be hard to keep a date for a long time lest they grow uneasy of my pet leech. On the plus side, you wouldn’t have to provide much except a bowl of water for the little guy and an occasional bloodletting. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts.

I am a strong advocate for invertebrates as pets. At the zoo where I work, I have handled and helped care for millipedes, cockroaches, and tarantulas. They are all very fascinating and easy to care for! As far as leeches as pets, yes! Go right ahead! But please please PLEASE, don’t let it feed on your blood. It is incredibly easy to contract diseases from any blood-letting not conducted by a professional. Medical leeches are kept in perfectly sterile environment and are never re-used (after use they are incinerated). Instead, feed your leeches fresh liver once a month. Do not let the liver sit in their aquarium for a month; just let them feed on it for a day and throw it out. Clean the aquarium regularly and always provide fresh water. Another important thing about keeping leeches: THEY CAN GET OUT OF ANY SMALL SPACE!!! Keep their aquariums tightly closed at all times. Provide air for them by purchasing an aquarium with a top made of fine mesh. And, once again, do not let them feed on you! Always handle your leeches with thick rubber gloves. I have heard of a newly-discovered large leech species that does not feed on human blood. These animals may soon be a worthy addition to the invertebrate pet market, as soon as captive breeders can be established.

How should we react to the drugs found in drinking water?

You can drink bottled water or get a water filter. Your water is actually safe to drink. Ignore these reports that try to scare people.

Tips for a first-time rabbit owner?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat show supplies

I am adopting an 8 month old female mini rex next week and have done plenty of research on caring for her, but I was wondering if anyone has any good advice or things to look out for that I might not have read about. I’m not breeding or showing her, just keeping her as a pet. I’m planning on getting the following supplies to start out: a cage (approx. 24 by 24), a small kitty litter box and litter, a food dish, food pellets and fresh veggies, a water bottle, some cat toys from the previous owner, wooden blocks for chewing, a nail clipper, and a shoebox for her to sleep in. Am I missing anything important? Thanks!

The best things you can do for your bunn are - give her lots of your time, which will be easier if she’s an indoors bunny - read as much as you can - and get her diet right - rabbits have the longest and most complex digestive system of any mammal, so this is important and will give him a much longer life. Before six months, bunnies’ main diet should be hay, water, and lucerne pellets. Some say you can begin introducing vegetables at four months, some say not until six months of age. Most importantly, when you begin to introduce vegies, you must do it very slowly and gradually - begin with just one slice or one very small piece of your chosen vegie, and make sure it doesn’t give her diarrhoea over the next 24 hours before giving any more. Please see my website, where I’ve written articles on this, at
http://au.geocities.com/leaswebsite/bunnyfood

Also, NEVER give lettuce and NEVER give cabbage to rabbits - lettuce and cabbage are both very bad for rabbits, can cause diarrhoea and bloat which can kill them -

And please check out my site at

Anyone in Georgia looking for an adult cat?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat show supplies

I’m trying to find a home for a six year old, short haired cat named Skunk. His owner left him with me a month ago, supposedly for a short period of time, but then never picked him up; they told me a week after the scheduled date that they would just put him down if they got him. So I need to find him a home, and fast (I’m leaving the state on Saturday). The shelters in the area are full, as are the rescues, and I haven’t been able to find anyone who wants an older cat, despite ads in vets’ offices, Craigslist, and PetFinder.

The cat is six years old, black and white tuxedo pattern, and extremely sweet. He’s definitely a lap cat, and he’s pretty vocal. He is litter box trained and has never scratched anything. The vet says he’s healthy, up to date on all of his shots, and neutered. He purred when they drew blood; if that doesn’t show you how sweet this cat is, nothing will.

Preference is to those in or aroud Atlanta, but I’m willing to drive him pretty far. He comes with his supplies - food, bowls, cat box, litter, toys, brush, catnip, and carrier - if desired. Please, if you’re interested, live in your own place and/or have consent from the owner of wherever you live. This poor cat hasn’t had a stable home in two years, and he could really use one. A small adoption fee will be waived so long as we meet and I’m comfortable that he’s going to good home.

Here’s a picture of him:

Thanks!
It’s not that I don’t want him - he is a very sweet cat. However, I can’t afford to keep him right now, and it wouldn’t be fair for him to be stuck with me, especially since I go on business trips often; he’s such a lap cat that boarding numerous times isn’t a good idea.

And he is good with dogs; it takes him a little while to warm up, but once he does, he’s fine. I don’t know if he’s ever been with other cats before.

I live in Atlanta and volunteer with one of the rescue groups. Please contact me via Yahoo
and I will see if I may help.Note:I live in Inman Park.
