How do cats/kittens show submission to other cats?
Are there any signs to look for that show the one cat/kitten is showing another one submission?
Generally, eye contact is actually aggressive behavior. If a cat/kitten is being distant and avoiding eye contact, it is being submissive.
"A cat that is frightened by the approach of another animal it perceives as a potential threat tenses its whole body and may be ready to run if necessary. The pupils of the eyes widen and the cat may crouch down, lower its tail and flatten its ears against its head, which are submissive gestures. If the encroaching stranger approaches too closely, however, the cat may arch its back, raise its body hair and stand sideways, accompanying these warning signs with growling, hissing and bared teeth. The tail is usually held erect and, while still alarmed, the cat is trying to communicate that it is not to be trifled with. This defensive behavior combines elements of submission (widened pupils and flattened ears) with those of aggression (raised hackles, arched back, bared teeth and growling). If this approach does not deter the encroaching animal, the cat may spring into the attack, especially if it feels that it cannot escape. "

How much do purebred British Shorthair cats / kittens cost?
I love those grey cats with the very round faces and Cheshire smiles.
British SH’s come in almost every color - not just Blue. An ethical breeder would sell pets for about $600 or more for a kitten. You can get a retired breeding/show cat for less (adult - 1- 4 yrs old).
Here’s a list of BSH breeders.

What is the best flea and tick medicine for cats and kittens?
I have 3 adult cats and 1 kitten (about 3 months old) and they all have fleas and ticks. What is the best flea and tick medicine that actually works and is affordable? I prefer to use a one-spot treatment. Links and referrals are welcome! Thanks!
Frontline spot-on. It treats fleas and ticks and can be used on cats from 8 weeks of age. Get the Combo/Plus version if possible (from a vet) as this is the most complete treatment available as it also kills flea eggs and larvae and so helps break the flea lifecycle.
Do not use ANY flea or worm treatments from pet stores (except Frontline which has recently become licensed to be sold in stores) - there are some very dangerous flea products available in pet stores and all of them, I can guarantee you, are useless. Pop in to a vets - if the cats have worms, they have tapeworm too. Kittens should be wormed at least monthly until 6 months of age.

Is it safe to have cats and kittens around spiders?
My cat has given birth and we put her in the garage in a box with an old towel but she has moved herself and kittens to a spot where spiders are. Will they harm her if she annoys them. Thanks!
I don’t see any problem unless the spiders are black widows or brown recluses. Except for those two, spiders in general are pretty harmless.

How often can cats have kittens?
My cat had two kittens a few months ago and I think she might be pregnant again. How often can cats have kittens?
It takes about 9 weeks ( +/- 63 days ) from mating to delivery. A mama can go back into heat before her litter is weaned (about 6 wks), and have another litter and another and another……..until she’s spayed or dies from having too many litters and depleting her own body.
It’s not good for cats to have litter after litter, etc. They’ll wear out their uterus and can die from uterine infection……after delivering dead kittens, because her muscles were too weak to push them out.
If you LOVE your cat, you’ll have her spayed as soon as the vet says he’ll do it! Take her in, and have an exam…..see if she IS pregnant, and ask how soon the vet will spay her. She’ll live a longer, HEALTHIER, happier life, not going through this "trauma" every couple of months!
Hope this helps…….Good luck.
