OK… I am kinda worried about this… I have a two year old cat that was negative for feline lukemia when she was a kitten. We got her all of the vaccinations for FL when she was little. When we went to the vet with her a few months ago the vet said she did not need another shot because she was an indoor cat. We recently brought home a cat from the adoption shelter and now my fiancee is worried that the kitten may have lukemia.. Is my cat at risk even thoughtshe has already been given her shots???
Your cat does not need a FELV vaccination if it’s an indoor cat AND you do not expose it to outdoor cats or cats who’s FELV status is uncertain (like a kitten!). The vaccine needs to be boostered yearly (at least at this point in time, that is the recommendation based on what we know).
You need to test your kitten for FELV (and FIV while your at it) before you introduce your cats!!! And even if the tests are negative, I usually recommend a "quarantine period" anyhow, as young kittens often have upper respiratory infections, and I would rather treat only one cat for this than two or more!
This quarantine usually works out well anyhow, at the cats usually need to be gradually introduced anyways.
The good news is that even if the kitten IS FELV positive, there is a chance that your older cat would not get the disease, but it depends on exposure, so ask your vet when you go to get your kitten his exam (which you should do ASAP).

I bought the original and it’s little pellets that look like rabbit food. Does the clumping look the same? I bought it and I’ve been using it about a week and a half and it’s gotta a bad urine smell. I think I’m doing something wrong because everyone else says how amazing it is "if used properly". Can someone please walk me through this step by step?
Why use either? You’re wasting your money. All Feline Pine is is wood stove pellets - for about eight times the price! I even called Feline Pine once and asked them the difference between their product and wood stove pellets and all they could tell me was that "it costs a lot of money to market them as a pet product". Truth is, they MAKE a lot of money by CALLING it a pet product! Pick up a 40 lb bag of wood stove pellets at your local Lowes, Home Depot and a lot of grocery stores for about FOUR DOLLARS!

Can you read the Lora Leigh Feline Breed series out of order? My bookstore doesnt have book 2 or 3 but they Tanners so I thought I might read that in the meantime but dont want to be confused or not understand characters.
Yup, you can. One thing good about this series is that despite the fact that there are recurring plot lines that carry over from book to book, she hasn’t made those so complex that you have to stick to the specific publishing order of the books.
The series is very graphic. Though you probably know that if you already read book 1.

I’m looking to see if there is an actual kind of mythological creature that is similar to a Khajiit (from the Elderscrolls series). Like a minotaur or a werewolf but a half man half feline.
no, no. The creature you’re looking for is called a Mok. Like Ookla.
sigh… I bet half the people that read that are too young to get the joke.

I have a kitten that was just dropped off and I took her to the vet she was diagnosed with feline leukemia. Anyone have any ideas how I can help build up her imune system so she can stay with me and the children a little longer.
She is 6 monthes old and very sweet.
I would not consider it a death sentence at all, with good food and attention she should be alright. This link might help. Perhaps try some of the "Greens" supplements that humans use also ( available from some health food stores ) The vet will not encourage these treatments, he/she will not make any money off of them. Please also note the link is a suggestion, you can obtain omega fish oil capsules at less exorbitant rates at a drugstore.

I was just reading some material on feline heartworm that my vet gave me for our new kitten. In it they say there is no approved treatment for heartworm. How do they test for it?
Fist link is best but go to the second if you want to read more on the paragraph below.
Today we must use what is referred to as an "Occult Heart-worm Test" As above we first draw a drop or two of blood. The blood is then processed in a detection kit. This kit actually detects antibodies to the adult heart-worms by causing a color change in the media of the test. (Antibodies are proteins produced by the dog or cat’s immune system in attempting to control the heart-worm from within). Since this test does not rely on actually finding microfilaria, it is much more sensitive for detecting adult worms present in the heart. In the old days the microfilaria test would yield a false negative if the adult heart-worm wasn’t producing microfilaria as in all female or all male infections. Yes they can happen! Also for some crazy reason microfilaria do not circulate in the blood during the day hours as much as at night. God only knows where they hang out during the daytime. Aren’t parasites strange?

Is it necessary to give a kitten ir cat the feline leukemia injections if they are totally indoor cats?
Is it necessary to give cats and kittens FeLV vaccine if they are indoor cats? Necessary,no but it is recommended by the American Association of Feline Practitioners that every kitten gets the merial transdermal FeLV series as a kitten.
Why? Because it gives them some immunity and any cat at any time can escape.
I stress that it is the transdermal FeLV vaccine that is recommended.
As it does not have the negative side effects as other injectable FeLV vaccines.
The AAFP are the cat gurus and their work is to ensure the best care is given to every cat.
I do not recommend the injectable FeLV vaccine but I as a CVT gave all my cats as kittens the transdermal FeLV series to ensure immunity.
If you have more questions go to the AAFP website they have loads of helpful information.
