homemade cats toy ideas?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: homemade cat toys

My cats bored and Im feeling artsy so does anybofy have any home made cat toy ideas?

Some simple homemade cat toys include:

* Paper or ping pong ball – Believe it or not, your kitty can have hours of fun with this. Simply take a large piece of paper, crumple it into a ball and throw it.
* String toys – Attach a feather to a piece of string or use a fishing pole with fun creative lures at the end, such as bells or lights. I like stuffing a stocking with some catnip and attaching it to the fishing pole.
* Bag toys – Never use a plastic bag for these homemade cat toys, but instead use a large paper bag from a supermarket or department store. You can also do this with a cardboard box, just be sure to remove all staples and tape.
* Mouse-like toys – A friend of mine taught her cat how to play mouseball, using a toy mouse and throwing it in the air. The cat would swat it towards her; she would catch it and throw it back in the air just like baseball.
* Toys with lights and sounds – Take your bag toy and put bells, balls or lights inside, then close the bag up and watch kitty try to get into it.
* Catnip toy – Not all cats are affected by catnip. It is a gene, so you will have to test your cat. If he is catnip sensitive, do not over use it because he can get overheated and exhausted.

Other Homemade Cat Toys

* An empty toilet paper roll or paper towel roll makes a fun toy.
* Empty plastic bottles with labels removed and bells or lights inside (what I like to call the bug in the jar) will make your cat go crazy for hours.
* Blow bubbles! Easy for you and fun for your cat.
* Save bungy cords, fuzzy toys, feathers, bells, little lights, and all sorts of things that you thought were junk because when you are feeling creative, you have a whole toy store for your kitty.

Homemade Perch

Be sure to always have a perch that he can sit on – cats love to look out of windows, they even love to sit in one room and watch you from another. To make your own perch, get a piece of wood, cut to size for a window box or make a stand. Purchase a scrap of carpeting from the carpet store and fold it over your piece of wood, staple it and you are ready to go. Then install brackets to hang your perch from a wall or window.

Scratching Posts

One thing to always consider is a scratching post for your cat. There are three types of scratching posts: vertical, flat, or all out 2-in-1 (a flat scratching post with an arch over it so that they can scratch their back while kneading the floor portion of the post).

You can make your own scratching post similar to a perch by purchasing a round or square piece of wood to use as the post. You then need a flat piece of plywood, cut to size, for example 3 x 3 feet square, and a square round post two feet high. You can hot glue them or nail them together. Before you attach your two pieces, wrap your post with carpeting or sisal (sea grass). Make sure that if you use paint or stain that it is non-toxic. A scratching post is an excellent homemade cat toy.

Fun homemade toys for a fussy rabbit?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: homemade cat toys

My rabbit is very fussy with toys. I bought him this jingly ball that I stuffed with food..he wasn’t interested. I bought him a bouncy little mouse on string (a cat toy) but he wasn’t interested. I try just throwing random things and seeing if he wants them, he’s not interested. The only things he is interested in are things we don’t want him to have. The only real toy he actually uses is his wood chew..and I feel really bad that he doesn’t have any other toys.

What sort of toys could I make for him? Anyone else have a fussy/shy rabbit? Thanks :]

my cat doesn’t want to play?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: homemade cat toys

We try to play with the cat, with cat toys, aluminum foil balls, homemade cat toys, but she isn’t interested. whats wrong with her, or us? shes 6 months old by the way.
we found her under our deck about 2 months ago.

You have hit the teen years for a cat. This is the (put me down ) age. It is not you it is the cat. Try a string with a fake mouse on the end. Get a big box and cut holes in it. Little holes to dangle the string in and big ones for the cat to jump in. Don’t give up and be discouraged by the distant behavior it is a phase and will pass. If she was in the wild this is the age mom would try to run her off to have her own life. She wil warm up in about eight weeks just wait it out and give her lots of attention wether she wants it or not.

How to attach a long string cat toy to a wooden dowel?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: homemade cat toys

What is the best way to make a homemade "cat teaser" using long pieces of fleece attached to a dowel?

I want to make a nice presentation, but something that is sturdy (we all know how cats can play!) and unharmful to a cat.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Thank you!
Also: while searching online, I haven’t really found a cat toy supply website. Anyone know if there are any online- especially any teaser sticks.

Thanks!

Well, it really would depend on the thickness or width of the dowel- one that’s too thin may just snap in half. I have several plastic wands that have slowly bent! My cats love those teaser wands!

I’d get a pretty decent-width dowel rod, and drill a hole through the top so you could put a string through and tie it off real tight.

But those teaser toys are SO easy to find! They’re really popular, and you can find them anywhere from the dollar store, to pet stores, to WalMart or Target.

I’ve found these online that might help:

This is one of the wands that my cats have and absolutely love:

My cats also have this one (one of the ones they bent haha):

Here’s yet another one that my cats have and love (I know, I spoil my cats!):

This website seems helpful:

Oh, and this is a nice site: They’re handmade, but they’re very sturdy and high-quality. You can either order from them, or just browse the site to get ideas for your own teaser toy! Here’s the link:

I have a few fleece ones too, but I can’t recall where I bought them… Just mentioning that in case you do decide to "do it yourself", fleece is a great idea. =)

Good luck, hope I could help in some way!

How can you make homemade cat toys?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: homemade cat toys

Like can you make something with catnip or peppermint in it? any ideas?

paper bags are big hits.

I take old clothing I don’t want and can’t give away. I found a glove once that didn’t have the other pair. So I stuff it with stuffing and catnip, sewed it shut, and then sewed a long strip of cloth to it and my cats love it. They’ve had it for 4 yrs now and it’s still in tact.

what are some good homemade cat toys to make?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: homemade cat toys

my cats dont like playing with store bought toys and i want to make them some new wons or even if you know of something in your house that they would like to play with just tell me. They already play with flashlights, lazers, tin foil balls, polly pocket rubber clothes, pony tails and fuzzy barbie clothes. also they are not aloud to have cat nip. thanks
also as i forgot, they do not have front claws so it cant be like a scratching post or anything. and the reason they cant have catnip is because my cat get to hiper and pee all over the house. they also love playing with medium sized bouncy balls if that helps anyone with the answers. thanks

Catnip in moderation is fine, but then again you have already got cats that had to undergo someone else deciding which body parts they need so I don’t find it surprising you think of a scratching post as a toy and not as a training aid, which is what is actually is, Scratching posts are for training, not playing.

what are some good homemade cat toys?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: homemade cat toys

I want to get my cat the best christmas present ever but I don’t know what to give her. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi, I have 2 great ideas for you as pet toys. I came up with these toys as I had enough of the garbage made in china toys you can buy, which fall apart and leave lint and foil all over the carpet!
The first one is, go to a toy store or toys in a department store, and find a rubber snake! Its best if its a medium sort of rubber, not so soft it will get torn apart and not so hard the cat will damage its teeth. Also, I dont leave that toy around all the time, just take it out occassionally and attack the cat with it and drag it around:)
Second, in the same toy section, find one of those little toy cars that you wind the wheels back and it takes of accross the floor. My cat love to chase her little car.

What do you cats like to play with? Does anyone make any homemade toys?

My cat’s love balls of string one of them loves anything plastic like parts of boxes or even my daughters polly pocket clothes for her doll..the clothes are tiny and plastic, my cat runs about with it in it’s mouth and then throws it in the air with it’s paws..it’s so funny…..I usually just get little balls for the cat’s to play football with.
