Why is it always the white kittens that are more likely die in litters?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: kittens

Is it just a bad coincidence in my case??? A few years back, a few stray cats entered our backyard to have their kittens. All of the kittens usually survived, except for the (pure) white ones. The white kittens never passed the first day. I’ve read that white cats are more likely to be deaf or blind, but that’s all I’ve ever read about them.

Here are some links about white kitties

i hope some of those helped explain why you’ve had bad luck with white cats.

Will getting 2 Burmese kittens stop me from being able to work from home?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: kittens

I’m really keen to get 2 Burmese kittens, but I work from home, and I would like people’s experiences on whether it’s possible to get work done with 2 Burmese cats/kittens. Thank you!
Oh, that IS what I wanted to hear - that I can work at home with them around - but do the responders have experience of Burmese (as they are particularly fond of attention)? Thank you!

I am sure they will try and help you do your work. Sit on the keyboard etc. But I imagine they will play together and sleep a fair bit.

I have experience of Balinese, who are very affectionate cats, from their profile slightly less than burmese but still. My cat is very affectionate and does sit on my keyboard when I try and do things, but eventually she gives in. When I have been at home in the day, she does need some attention but she is ok. I imagine as kittens it will be harder for you to work but I think from my experience with balinese it wouldn’t be a problem.

Posted by: admin  :  Category: kittens

Found 7 week old kittens in the desert with the mom cat being dead and I think the kittens nursed from her for at lease a day or so. They seem healthy but their poop smells weird but solid. Could it cause them to get a disease that is contagious to other animals?

Why do so many people get kittens too young?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: kittens

It seems to me that many people don’t realize that cats shouldn’t leave their mother before 8 weeks bare minimum. Good cat breeders keep the kittens until they’re 12 weeks old. People seem to know this with dogs but completely ignore it with cats, snatching away cats from 2-7 weeks old all the time. It’s not good for the kitties and should be a last resort(orphaned kitten, etc.) I was just wondering why people get kittens this young instead of waiting until they are old enough to be weened. Any input?

Beacause ignorant people don’t spay and neuter and figure kittens are so cute then they start moving an going to potty and getting into things so they get rid of them.

Save a critter don’t litter!!!

How do I start kittens out eating regular cat food?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: kittens

I bought this "2nd Step" KMR weaning powder to mix with water like the guys at PetCo said I should do. Well the kittens aren’t big fans of it to say the least. Should I mix the powder with water and regular cat food and blend it? Their mother, Poptart, has been exhausted and I’d really like to start the kittens on their own diet. They are about 6 weeks old now.

Generally kittens begin to sniff out adult food at 7 weeks. They may try sooner or later, but 7 to 8 weeks is when it is experimented. A kitten formula is ok or even an adult food is fine as long as it is not a dietary formula they need their nutrition. If they try to eat hardfood just monitor them.

How old do new kittens have to be until I can touch them?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: kittens

My mom says I cannot touch new kittens for a while because the mother will smell my scent on them and not nurse. This cat is an outdoor cat and is afraid of us and won’t go near us (but is generally nice) and I want to take care of the kittens.

I’m sorry, two weeks old is WAAAAAYYY too early to take them from their mother. They don’t even have teeth yet, nor would they be able to digest kitten chow at that age! They should have access to their mother until they are at least six weeks old.

If your cat was an indoor cat it would be alright to touch them as long as you wash and are extremely careful…however, since she is pretty wild, it would be best to wait until they are about three to four weeks old to cuddle them. That way, the mother is pretty intensely bonded with them and she probably wouldn’t reject them at that age. Plus, at that age they would be starting to explore their world and gather all sorts of new scents on their little bodies anyway.

That is also about the time that you want to start socializing them.
