Could we cause a revolution in Energy supply?

Energy prices just seem to go up and up, regardless of the wholesale price. Energy companies are owned by rich investment banks which squeeze every last drop of profit, under invest in infrastructure, abuse their customers with premium rate phone lines, threats of disconnection if you fall behind with a single payment, increased costs if you pay upfront i.e. with a key meter and £10 charges for sending you a letter!
What would happen, if the “customers” got together and cancelled their contracts en masse and instead paid their money into a fund to establish a co-operatively owned energy supplier which was owned by the customers and run for the benefit of the customers. No more payments to shareholders, no more huge salaries for fat cat investors, no more devious advertising campaigns designed to frighten, confuse and befuddle customers.
Can you help? Would you support such a scheme? Lets start a campaign, get everyone you know to respond to this question, lets cause a storm. We need everyone, we need to form a network of cooperative consumers all willing to do what they can, lend their skills for the good of the community.
Why not just coordinate a mass switch off for a week of both gas and electricity. Effectively going on consumer strike.
