How to prevent feline acne?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: feline acne

I think my cat’s feline acne is flaring up much worse than usual. I’m taking my cat to the vet tomorrow to verify this. My question is, how can I clean her chin in the future, without using running water, to prevent such a bad flare-up from reoccurring? She’s incredibly hard to handle, so anything involving running water and rinsing will absolutely not work. Can I use acne pads, a cotton ball soaked in witch hazel, etc.? Of course, I’m going to ask the vet this same question, but I was hoping to get a range of options to try with my difficult kitty.

Stop letting her eat chocolate… ;) Just kidding.

My 14 year old cat gets this a lot on her chin. I take 2 bowls and put peroxide (just a little) with some water in one bowl and plain water in the other bowl. I wash her chin off with the peroxide and water and rinse her chin with the plain water. I used 2 separate cloths as well so the peroxide won’t stay on her chin. That way your cat won’t panic when she hears the running water.

It’s best to use either glass or aluminum bowls for food and water as plastic can cause feline acne. Something in the plastic is what causes feline acne. By not using plastic bowls the acne will be less frequent and not as severe.

these people obviously dont have cats or know anything about them….do you use plastic bowls for your kitty? if so this may be the reason why, just switch to ceramic or metal. if you dont hav eplastic bowls i would ask your vet. because there can be other reasons for this

Ironically, I had some Vivant 2.5% BP cleanser (benzol peroxide), which is a mild acne wash with tiny micro beads in it. I just put a very tiny bit on and massaged lightly to loosen the stubborn black spots, then used a wet cotton ball to wipe off clean. I did this once per day for about 2 days, and it never came back!
A very mild acne pad such as Stridex would work, and they do have sensitive skin Stridex pads. Just very gently wipe off the black dots on her chin and the medicine should clear it right up. Clean it once per day for a couple of days. To prevent feline acne, only use stainless steel pet food and water dishes and do not use plastic or other types of bowls.

Most vets recommend switching from plastic food and water bowls to stainless steel, glass, or ceramic bowls. If they are ceramic, make sure the glaze is lead free.

It is thought that some chemicals might leach out of plastic bowls and cause the acne as an allergic reaction.

Yes, you can use acne pads. Our vet told us to use Stridex when Simon developed acne.

I would also think you could use witch hazel on a cotton ball.
